This is where my goals start to fall apart

Ok, so I haven’t written in the past two or three days in the story.  I was going to write in the morning Wednesday, but I ended up sleeping in until just before class, and the rest of the day was extremely busy.  Then, today, I was also going to write, but I ended up reading my scriptures in the morning (just got a new set), went to classes, did some readings for one of my classes, then had a meeting with the Quark leadership to plan for the semester, then did some work on the computer, then visited friends, went grocery shopping, and visited some Arabic friends (which went WAAAAAYYYYY late, I’m only just getting back having not finished my homework), and it’s nearly 3 am and of course I have no time to write.  With classes starting and everything else, this is when things start to fall apart and I start finding it hard to meet my goals.  What should I do?  This is tough!

  1. Well, I’d say start with looking at your priorities.

Make a list with all the things you want to get done in a day. Then order them in importance. Then see exactly how high or low writing is. If it’s not within the first five, then writing isn’t a main priority for you and it probably won’t get done that often just because your other priorities will always push it out.

Now the question is, can you bump it up? Would you be willing to sacrifice whatever is above it to get the writing done? Or are those more important?

This is where you get to see if you’re willing to be a real writer or just a hobby writer 🙂

(IMHO) A real/serious writer has writing up within the first 5, if not first 3. Writing will get done no matter what because it’s as important to them as breathing. For a hobby writer, well, they could wait another day before writing since there are so many other things to do instead…and then they find they never write.

A side note: Priorities list differ, so for some people the first 10 are actually the big ones while for others, it’s only the first 3. I’m basing the numbers off of my priorities list and the first 5 are the big ones for me. So, just know that the numbers are dependent upon the type of priority list. 🙂

    Good luck!
