What This Book Is About
Samuel Cox, a shaggy-haired sea mage whose magic is inseparable from his hair, is an outcast trying to sign onto a ship when a magical compass gives him a vision of a girl trapped in a dark ritual. That vision leads him into conflict with the cult of Malachai, toward the legendary Tidecaller’s Amulet, and into a dangerous race across the sea to recover a power so great that destroying it may cost Samuel the very gift that defines him.
This book leans hardest into artifact fantasy and the temptation of power. It combines sea adventure, cult intrigue, magical inheritance, hidden family history, and costly heroism. It also sharpens one of the Sea Mage Cycle’s central ideas: that the greatest acts of courage may require not gaining more power, but surrendering it.
