English 318 just makes me want to WRITE.

…so I did today. A lot. Somewhere around 1,500 words–though I wish I could write more. Progress is being made. As to the final status of this novel, well, I don’t know…it’s hard not to have doubts…

I think that overall, though, the project is good for me. It’s really helped me to be more goal oriented and to think about what I want to do after school. It’s also been good practice in working consistently towards something, and it’s definitely been a positive creative outlet. I think it’s even helped my spirituality somewhat.

However, as far as what this novel is going to look like after the rough draft…I don’t know. In English 318 today, we talked about plot, and Brandon told us that the biggest mistakes that writers usually make on their first novel have to do with plot. He then pinpointed the exact problem I’m having–the story just keeps going on and on, and I don’t really have a clear one sentence “this is what this books is all about” zinger.

However, I don’t think it’s past saving, and even if it doesn’t get published, it’s definitely worth finishing. By finishing this thing, at the very least I’m going to have had the practice and the experience, and I’ll be able to do it better the next time. At the best, I might be able to look back and rewrite it so that it’s pretty good.

Whatever happens, I’m going to go all the way with this story–at least try to get it published. I’ll rewrite it, make it so that I wouldn’t die if I saw it in a bookstore with my name on it, and send it out to a couple of places.

Meh. So that’s what’s up with this novel I’m writing. As I get closer to finishing, I vacillate between high excitement and gnawing doubt. I suppose that’s the way it is for everyone.

This Monday is a holiday, and I really don’t have any other plans, so I think that after I’ve done my homework and taken care of anything really pressing that I need to do, I’m going to lock myself up somewhere and write 10,000 words. Well…maybe not quite that much…but somewhere close. 🙂 I really want to finish this novel!

There’s also a lot that I need to blog on! Andy over on her blog was kind enough to give me this award, and in keeping with the tradition, I need to pass it on to my ten favorite bloggers. Also, there was this really fascinating lecture today in Rel A212 (NT Acts-Revelation) about Paul’s teachings on sex and marriage. In fact, it was probably one of the more fascinating lectures I’ve been to all semester, and that’s saying something! I’m almost ashamed to admit it, but I recorded it (hey, it’s Thursday, and I like to record Brandon’s lectures over in English 318, so it’s not like this was the only thing I recorded!) and I’d like to put it up on this site sometime, plus my general reaction and take on the whole thing. Very fascinating, actually. And there’s also a whole bunch of stuff from English 318 that I haven’t written down, and LTUE is going on this week, and…holy cow! There’s just tons of stuff to blog about! Who needs TV when you’ve got a blog?!

I’ll end by linking to this absolutely hilarious comic that I read the other day, and call it a night. Take care!
