\u201cThe station. Since they aren\u2019t responding to our hails, I figure we ought to calculate our own approach vector.\u201d<\/p>\n
Isaac frowned. \u201cI\u2019m not so sure that\u2019s a good idea. We don\u2019t know what else is down there. For all we know, our approach could put us on a collision course with local traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat traffic? We\u2019re picking up nothing but radio silence across all bands\u2014for all we know, the station is dead.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dead.<\/em>The suggestion sent chills down the back of Isaac\u2019s neck. He sighed and shook his head.<\/p>\n \u201cIf the station were dead, wouldn\u2019t the colonists have set up some sort of distress beacon?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s the point in setting up a distress beacon if you\u2019re more than two parsecs from the nearest help?\u201d<\/p>\n What if they are dead?<\/em> Isaac wondered. What if that\u2019s why they haven\u2019t hailed us?<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cSomething is definitely wrong,\u201d he said softly. \u201cMaybe we should just cut our losses now and leave.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat? You mean turn around and go back to Nova Minitak?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat, or move on to Esperanzia. This isn\u2019t right\u2014we\u2019ve been transmitting on every major frequency, with no response. Something about this system is very wrong, and I don\u2019t want to get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cInvolved in what?\u201d asked Aaron, his face incredulous. \u201cIf something is wrong, maybe they need our help.
