{"id":5183,"date":"2011-06-06T18:24:05","date_gmt":"2011-06-07T00:24:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/?p=5183"},"modified":"2011-06-06T18:25:49","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T00:25:49","slug":"ive-never-registered-on-the-absolute-write-forums","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/ive-never-registered-on-the-absolute-write-forums\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;ve never registered on the Absolute Write forums&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/write2publish.blogspot.com\/2011\/06\/ive-been-banned.html\" target=\"_blank\">and now I don&#8217;t need to<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The publishing industry has turned into the wild and lawless west, complete with lynch mobs and posses, isolated and inbred communities, a gold rush for ebooks, and dirty corporate executives looking to railroad their way over the honest, hardworking authors who just want a plot of land to call their own.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s insane&#8211;and yet, at the same time, <i>so freaking awesome.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Just five years ago, there was only one real way to make a living as a writer: go with a traditional publisher.  But now?  Now, there are no rules.  Now, you can be a cowboy and still make a name for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>I do want to express my sympathy for Robin, though.  Her blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/write2publish.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Write 2 Publish<\/a>, is an excellent source of information on the changing publishing world, and I&#8217;ve always found her commentary thoughtful and insightful.  The fact that she was banned from one of the largest online communities of writers (and especially the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ridanpublishing.com\/images\/banning.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><i>way<\/i><\/a> in which she was banned) only confirms to me how seriously wrong-headed people are who cling dogmatically to traditional publishing models.<\/p>\n<p>There are two kinds of people in this world&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;and now I don&#8217;t need to.
