That kind of conflict\u2014between what your heart wants and what your role demands\u2014felt like the right engine for a tight, propulsive book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julietta\u2019s situation is defined by duty from page one: she\u2019s headed toward an arranged marriage meant to secure alliances, trade access, and stability for her people. She isn\u2019t na\u00efve about it, and she\u2019s not looking for a melodramatic escape hatch\u2014she genuinely understands why the marriage matters, and she\u2019s trying to be worthy of the responsibility placed on her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
