I think I’ve figured out a way to help release some of the angst I mentioned in my last post.\u00a0 If I can gear myself to write a little bit in short 10 minute blocks, and then do this whenever I have the free time in the middle of my busy day, I think this will help.\u00a0 I did it today when I went in for work–showed up 15 minutes early and spent that time writing in the lounge–and it helped.\u00a0 1,574 words by the end of the day, 250 of them there.<\/p>\n
There was a writing meeting today.\u00a0 It was a lot of fun!\u00a0 Thursday morning, I saw that we didn’t have many submissions, so I sent out an email saying “if you’ve got something you’ve been thinking of sending but haven’t done so yet, now’s a good chance to do it.” Holy cow!\u00a0 Got like four extra submissions that way!\u00a0 It does seem that a lot of people aren’t coming anymore, but most of us do have midterms, so that may explain it.\u00a0 Regardless, we had a good turnout today.\u00a0 It was a lot of fun.<\/p>\n
Had another dinner with my sisters.\u00a0 It was awesome! (even though her roommate Natasha scheduled some kind of a party with the Capitol house at the same time, and forgot to tell my sister.\u00a0 We had to move to Danny’s place to watch the movie.\u00a0 Lame.)\u00a0 We watched Nausicaa, <\/em>and it was AWESOME!\u00a0 Man, I really love Miyazaki movies!\u00a0 He knows how to create a fantasy world that you can lose yourself in!<\/p>\n And that makes me want to write.<\/p>\n But unfortunately, I had a lot of homework to do…and most of it isn’t finished.\u00a0 Got maybe two or three hours of Arabic, two 20 page articles for poli sci 310, another article for poli sci 375, and got to study for this New Testament midterm.\u00a0 Blegh.\u00a0 School is awesome, but sometimes it can really get in your way.<\/p>\n In my novel, I’m getting to this part where I want to have two characters gradually realize that they love each other romantically, but I’m not sure how to do it.\u00a0 I don’t want to force it, either, and I want it to be subtle.\u00a0 Well, right now I think its subtle to the point where one of the characters has no clue that he likes this other character!\u00a0 So, I need to change that…without having to write an extra 20,000 words.<\/p>\n I’m getting closer to finishing this novel, though.\u00a0 If I can hook these characters up, it won’t be hard to put them in all the positions they need to be for the big climax.\u00a0 Except for Aaron–I really have no clue what role he’s going to play.\u00a0 Commanding a ship, doing something crazy…but I don’t know what it will be.<\/p>\n Maybe I’ll put him in orbit when the aliens finally arrive.\u00a0 That would actually be pretty cool, and more believable than having him somehow become one of the head leaders of his clan and avert a war.<\/p>\n One last really cool piece of news–I got a new camera!\u00a0 It’s really cool–a canon powershot SX100 IS, or so it says on the camera.\u00a0 Basically, it’s got tons of manual controls–I can set the aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and even the focus manually!\u00a0 Which means that I can play around with depth of field, panning, and other kinds of stuff that I haven’t done since photography class in high school!\u00a0 Man, I’m excited!<\/em><\/p>\n
