[NOTE: this is part five in a series of posts lifted from the\u00a0quark message boards<\/a> where I recently GM’d a game of\u00a0Werewolf<\/a>. \u00a0The theme was Final Fantasy 6, one of my favorite RPGs of all time. \u00a0To see all posts, click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

WARNING: there\u00a0will<\/em> be spoilers here, and lots of them, so if you haven’t played Final Fantasy 6, do yourself a favor and play the game before reading on!]<\/p>\n

At the Returner hideout…<\/em><\/p>\n

BANON: Right… We all know that the Empire is using Magitek power in
\nbattle. The point is, how has the Emperor created it?<\/p>\n

EDGAR: I had LOCKE look into the rumor that the Empire is forcing the
\nworld’s finest scholars to study Espers.<\/p>\n

LOCKE: All the trouble in Narshe is over an Esper, too…<\/p>\n

TERRA: You mean there’s some connection between Espers and Magitek?<\/p>\n

BANON: I can only recall one thing linking Espers with Magitek
\npower…<\/p>\n

EDGAR: You don’t mean…<\/p>\n

BANON: Indeed! The ancient War of the Magi…<\/p>\n

SABIN: No! It can’t be!<\/p>\n

LOCKE: My Grandma used to tell me stories about magical machines…
\nCould they have been true?<\/p>\n

EDGAR: Could that ancient tragedy be playing out once again…<\/p>\n

BANON: It’s just speculation… But historical studies have provided
\na number of conflicted and frightening theories… According to one
\ntheory, humans and machines were imbued with powers drained from
\nEspers…<\/p>\n

TERRA: That could explain Magitek power…<\/p>\n

EDGAR: We can only fight Magitek enemies with Magitek weapons…<\/p>\n

BANON: It’s risky, but if we have TERRA…speak with that Esper, it
\nmight just wake up…<\/p>\n

EDGAR: I wonder if that’s wise…?<\/p>\n

BANON: Who can say? Regardless, we need TERRA’s help.<\/p>\n

LOCKE gets up and walks over to TERRA.<\/em><\/p>\n

LOCKE: TERRA…<\/p>\n

TERRA: I’ll do it!<\/p>\n

The front door opens.<\/em><\/p>\n

BANON: What? What’s that noise?<\/p>\n

RETURNER SOLDIER: Emergency! Sir Banon…<\/p>\n

The soldier collapses.<\/em><\/p>\n

SOLDIER: S…South Figaro…<\/p>\n

BANON: What’s going on? What happened?<\/p>\n

SOLDIER: S…South Figaro… E…Empire…took Figaro… Coming…this
\nway…unnnh…<\/p>\n

BANON: They’ve found us… We haven’t a moment to lose!<\/p>\n

The Returners evacuate not a moment too soon. Reinforced with their divisions from Thamasa and Doma, the Imperial Army now focuses all of its strength on Narshe, the coal-mine city of the North. Imperial spies have scouted out the Returner hideout, and a whole brigade of elite Imperial Magitek troops now storms through the mountains, ready to take them out.<\/em><\/p>\n

All of these troop movements on the eastern continent have driven several of the wild animals out of the Veldt, into more settled country. Forced to defend themselves from the onslaught of man-eating monsters, the people of Mobliz send animal hunting parties by day, returning to the protective barricades around the city by night.<\/p>\n

<\/em><\/p>\n

On one of these pre-emptive hunting expeditions, the hunters come across a strange, wild beast…<\/em><\/p>\n

GAU: Uwaoo~!! Ooh… I’m hungry!<\/p>\n

The trigger-happy citizens shoot before the beast has a chance to reveal himself. When the dust settles, they find the mangled corpse of a young boy, draped in monster hides, shining, intelligent eyes glossed over in death…<\/em><\/p>\n

Innocents lynch CptSqweky, an innocent.<\/span><\/p>\n
