{"id":129,"date":"2008-01-14T03:32:04","date_gmt":"2008-01-14T09:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/?p=129"},"modified":"2008-01-14T03:32:04","modified_gmt":"2008-01-14T09:32:04","slug":"i-have-the-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/i-have-the-power\/","title":{"rendered":"I HAVE THE POWER!!!!!!!!!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just some stuff that I&#8217;ve been up to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I was just over at Steve&#8217;s house, and his roommate just got this DVD collection of He-Man.\u00a0 I&#8217;d never seen the show before, but I&#8217;d heard a lot about it so we threw it in and watched a couple of episodes.<\/p>\n<p>Holy cow, it was funny!\u00a0 The voice of Skelator (&#8220;Skelator&#8221; was my nickname in high school, btw), He-Man&#8217;s funny superhero lines, the music, and the occasional random crazy thing&#8211;like a man-rabbit villain who has all the lifeforce of the planet in a beaker on a bunson burner!<\/p>\n<p>But, you know what, even though the show makes my laugh hysterically, and the dialogue is as sappy as heck, and Skelator is such a stereotypical villain, and there are holes all over the place, when Adam picks up the sword and says &#8220;by the power of Grayskull!&#8221; and transforms into He-Man, it&#8217;s just freaking awesome. &#8220;I HAVE THE POWER!!!!!!!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have <em>no<\/em> idea why He-Man is just so freaking cool, but I can&#8217;t deny it&#8211;that show is just awesome.\u00a0 Maybe if I figure out the secret to how that show can be so full of holes and hilariousness and yet be so freaking cool, I can add it into my stories somehow.\u00a0 Then again&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Didn&#8217;t do a whole lot of writing today, mostly just church, hanging out at the FLSR, listening to talks, reading <em>By the Hand of Mormon<\/em>, going on walks and other such Sunday stuff.\u00a0 I need to wake up early tomorrow, though, so I can do my homework.\u00a0 Man, the first week and already I&#8217;m falling behind!\u00a0 Crazy!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m reading <em>Red Mars<\/em> by Kim Stanley Robinson right now.\u00a0 At first, I was afraid it would be boring: after all, there are no wars, no aliens, no extremely futuristic technology or anything.\u00a0 Just a group of people heading out to Mars to build a permanent colony.\u00a0 But after reading the first hundred pages, I have to say that it is absolutely <em>fascinating!<\/em>\u00a0 The relationships between all the different colonists, the conflicting ideologies, the different directions people want to take for their futures, it&#8217;s really a lot more believably dramatic than I&#8217;d thought it would be.\u00a0 And man!\u00a0 The way everything&#8217;s described, it makes me want to be there!\u00a0 Such an awesome world!\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be posting a review of that book when I finish it by the end of this next week.<\/p>\n<p>And I finished <em>Neuromancer <\/em>recently.\u00a0 I have to say, it was a VERY good book!\u00a0 One of the better books I&#8217;ve read in a while.\u00a0 It is really explicit, though, and I had to skip over certain parts, but man!\u00a0 The writing was fantastic, the world felt original and frighteningly believable, and the ideas were just awesome in the scope of their implications!\u00a0 Good sci fi!\u00a0 I&#8217;ll write a review of it next&#8211;when I can find the time!<\/p>\n<p>And now, since it&#8217;s nearly 3am, I think I&#8217;ll go to bed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just some stuff that I&#8217;ve been up to&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[],"tags":[599],"class_list":["post-129","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","tag-thoughts-reflections","entry"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/p7iXK-25","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack_likes_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/129","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=129"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/129\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=129"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=129"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.onelowerlight.com\/writing\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=129"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
