Actually, it wasn't just these French tourists who were doing this--there was actually a line! This is the monument of the bull in the financial district of New York city, a sort of good luck symbol of market capitalism and consumerism. Notice how the bronze surface of the bull is very well worn in these parts that these tourists are touching!
