War Doesn't Determine What's Right...
BYU is an overwhelmingly politically conservative school. However, in recent years there has been, IMO, increasing dissatisfaction on-campus with American neoconservative foreign policy. This seems to be leading some people to express solidarity with left-leaning anti-war groups through political slogans such as this one. I saw this girl the other day and asked if I could take her picture with the slogan on her backpack. It's not the only anti-war slogan I've seen recently--I've seen a couple of girls wearing shirts with 60's style peace and love slogans. Does this mean that BYU is moving towards the left? I don't know. Isolated photographs and one person's observations do not make a scientific study. On the whole, BYU is definitely still staunchly conservative, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. However, from conversations with friends and friends of friends, I would not be surprised if the majority of students consider the invasion of Iraq to have been a mistake.
