Useless Lines
Useless Lines
Every day, I go to the library to use the computers between classes. And every day, I walk past the information commons on the third floor, right near the atrium, and pass this line of people waiting to use a computer. And what do I do? I walk past them to the stairs, climb up to the fourth floor, and go to the LRC, where the computers are better, the monitors are wider, about half of them come with headphones, and there are no lines whatsoever. I think I've only seen one time when all the computers in the LRC were full, and that didn't last for more than twenty or so minutes. But this is the icing on the cake: as you can see in this picture, there is a monitor screen facing the people in the line, showing how many computers are available in all the different locations in the library! So not only are these people waiting in a line when they could be using a computer, they have a computer monitor right in front of their faces telling them that they don't have to be waiting in line! What is the meaning of this? Are all these kids freshmen or something? Are these kids somehow not as busy as the rest of us? Are we conditioned, as BYU students, to think that lines are a necessary part of a college experience? What is going on here? It boggles my mind. So please, if you are a BYU freshman or soon to be freshman, remember this: unless you want to look very stupid and waste tons of your valuable time in the process, DON'T stand in line waiting for a computer in the information commons! Not even the ten minute computers! I guarantee you, you can always find a free computer somewhere else in the library--and almost certainly in the LRC!!! It's not that far of a walk! Honestly!!!
